DGA’s Managed Video Surveillance Helps Ensure That Important Events Are Captured

Too many video surveillance systems fail to record or archive important incidents because of improper installation, inadequate user training, or poor servicing. DGA Security Systems provides managed video surveillance that addresses these problems by offering expert design and installation, and ongoing training, service and support. Today, DGA announces the launch of its Video Clip Retrieval Service, the latest enhancement to its managed surveillance solution.

Video Clip Retrieval makes accessing surveillance video as easy as filling out a web form. Once DGA receives a request from a customer, its experienced technicians log into the surveillance system, isolate the required video segments, post them to a secure web site for quick access, and deliver a copy to the customer on DVD.

DGA also archives the requested footage in its highly secure UL Listed monitoring center. Since video surveillance DVRs (digital video recorders) constantly overwrite old video to make room for new video, this provides an added safeguard against losing footage video. DGA customers can always access their video when they need additional copies at a later date, such as for legal or insurance purposes. DGA’s Video Clip Retrieval Service is a standard part of DGA’s managed video surveillance service.

Companies that don’t use a managed surveillance service are left on their own when an incident occurs. They need to figure out if the event was actually recorded and, if so, how to save it before it is deleted.

Valuable Tips for Protecting Jewelry Stores

In the April issue of INSTORE magazine, a trade magazine for jewelry stores, Fred Michmershuizen asked several security experts for their advice on protecting retailers. According to the Post, police charged two Diamond District wholesalers with insurance fraud and other crimes for staging a fake $4 million jewel robbery at a firm located in 2 West 46^th Street in 2008. According to the article:

Protect Your Showcases with DGA’s GemControl

On January 4, 2010, an Alabama jewelry store’s video surveillance system caught a thief walking over to an open showcase and grabbing watches totaling $27,000 as a distracted store employee had momentarily stepped away while assisting a customer, according to a report by the Jewelers Security Alliance.

Jewelry store employees are occasionally lax about locking cases that use old-fashioned mechanical locks because it can be cumbersome to search for the right key for each case. DGA’s GemControl allows employees to effortlessly swipe an electronic fob near a sensor to open the case. GemControl is easily configured to specify which cases employees can access, and when, while logging every access attempt.

JSA president, John Kennedy, issued this reminder, “Showcases must be kept locked unless a sales associate is actually putting in or taking out merchandise.”
