Fire System Education


DGA is an AIA/CES-registered provider of accredited courses on fire and security systems. We currently offer three one-hour seminars on fire and security systems, and attendees earn one AIA HSW credit for each. All courses are free-of-charge, and can be scheduled as in-house presentations by request.

COURSES OFFERED

Fire Alarms & Sprinkler Systems in NYC: Part 1
This introductory course defines and reviews fire alarm technology as well as the functions and principles of a fire sprinkler system. Attendees will also learn:

  • Fundamental FDNY alarm regulations and requirements in the NYC building code
  • The types and uses of control panels and sensors to power fire protection systems
  • The correct placement of sensors and other devices to protect life and property

Advanced Fire Alarms & Sprinkler Alarms in NYC: Part 2
New York City‘s revised fire code went into effect on July 1, 2008, affecting nearly every major building project in New York City. This course outlines how the codes have changed and what they now require. Attendees will also learn:

  • How to determine which code applies to particular projects
  • The code’s new occupancy classifications
  • The new fire alarm requirements by occupancy type

Introduction to Video Surveillance Systems
This course explains the essential technology behind closed-circuit television and digital video monitoring systems, and details how these systems can be best used to improve safety. Attendees will also learn:

  • How to evaluate cameras, monitors, and DVRs for video surveillance systems
  • How DVRs control, record, and store surveillance video
  • Options and best practices for installation and system monitoring
